WAR III and MUTANT Production Update!

Hi everyone,

Happy New Year! 

With BLACK STAR and GANGRENE files completed, the work continues to color, translate, and letter both WAR III and MUTANT. 

Once a book is completed and approved, we’ll upload the digital files to BackerKit and alert you all via Kickstarter Update that the digital rewards are ready.

We’re currently projecting that work will be completed next month. 

After the final issue is completed, we’ll be able to get the box set printed and work towards fulfilling all the physical rewards ASAP. 

We’ll keep you updated in case we run into any delays.

Production Update - WAR III

Colors are nearing completion for WAR III!

Once we finalize the colors of the “We the Heroes” story, we’ll be able to begin lettering. 

Please take a look at some unlettered / in-progress samples below, featuring new colors by Brushu Studio.

Production Update - MUTANT

Our letterer is currently working on MUTANT. 

Some of these pages need to be cleaned up and color corrected to match the look of the other stories in this volume, so it’s taking some additional time to complete.

We expect to have MUTANT completed in a few weeks and will send the digital version out as soon as it’s finalized.

BackerKit Surveys and Digital Editions of BLACK STAR & GANGRENE Are Hitting This Week!

Hi everyone!

We're here with a couple of important updates - sorry to keep you waiting!

BackerKit Surveys Arrive THIS WEEK!

We will be moving this campaign over to BackerKit, which helps us keep track of the digital and physical rewards fulfillment. We'll continue to post updates on Kickstarter when we have news to share but please make sure you fill out the BackerKit Survey when it hits your inbox later this week.

We have begun our "smoke test" for the survey, which means some of you will receive emails today. The rest of you will get your surveys by the end of the week. 

Please complete the survey & checkout process as soon as you can, as that will help us determine the final print count for these books and enable us to send you the digital and physical rewards without delay!

Digital Editions of GANGRENE and BLACK STAR arrive this week!

Once you complete your BackerKit survey and we lock your orders, you'll receive links from BackerKit that will let you download the digital editions of GANGRENE and BLACK STAR to the device of your choice.

Your pledge must be fully paid off and your order locked before the digital distribution can begin! We anticipate being able to have these files go out by the end of this week.

If you run into any trouble accessing these files after getting the notification from BackerKit, send us an email: [email protected] and we'll assist.

General Production Update

Work on GANGRENE and BLACK STAR is completed, so we're over halfway done!

Our colorists are continuing to work on the WAR III stories while we finish translating and cleaning the pages for MUTANT. 

We are aiming to have both of these volumes completed in early 2026, so we can hit our projected timeframe for printing and delivery of the box set in Spring.

This campaign has exceeded all of our expectations and quickly became our #2 highest-funded and our #1 most-backed project!

You amaze us and we're so grateful to have your support in bringing more of Juan's incredible works to the audience here on Kickstarter.

Campaign Recap

We unlocked our final stretch goal (and almost hit $150k!) yesterday, which means all backers of the physical tiers will receive a free B&W ashcan edition of WAR III with the box set!

Next Steps

With the fundraising period over, we're going to take a deep breath and get back to work on the other crowdfunding projects that we launched this year, as we're nearing the print dates for a variety of titles, including The Art of Eduardo Risso, Zorro Remastered, and the Harbinger Classic Omnibus. 

The editorial team will continue their work on translations and coloring for the stories that are included in the WAR III and MUTANT graphic novels. 

GANGRENE and BLACK STAR are already finished, so we're in good shape as we proceed ahead.

BackerKit & Digital Files

We'll be using BackerKit to manage post-campaign fulfillment, deliver digital files, and offer additional add-ons. 

It'll take us some time to set up the survey, so there's nothing you need to do right now, but please be aware that if you have a private Apple ID email associated with your Kickstarter email, you may want to update it so you can get emails when we move over to BackerKit!

New Crowdfunding Campaign

There's no rest for the weary as we'll be launching a new campaign, X-O MANOWAR: BLACK, WHITE & GOLD next week. 

It's a new Valiant Comics anthology and features talent from across the industry lending their voices to Aric of Dacia, the Visigoth warrior who wields the universe's most powerful suit of extraterrestrial armor!

If we hit $135k, we'll add a FREE B&W ashcan edition of WAR III to all physical pledges. 

What is an Ashcan? It's basically a mini-comic and printed in a smaller size using different paper than our graphic novels.

This special ashcan will feature a selection of the original black & white versions of the short stories from WAR III that were unlocked in an earlier stretch goal!

You helped us smash through our $75k funding goal so we'll be adding a NEW 20 page story to the WAR III anthology, "We the Heroes."

$100k Stretch Goal - New Stories added to Mutant

When we hit $100k, we'll add two new stories to the MUTANT anthology, 'Checkmate' and 'Prima Bella.'
